Get the size right first
Measure your shower or tub area before buying. A standard shower curtain is around 180 x 180 cm, but spaces vary — the curtain should be wide enough to overlap the opening and long enough to reach near the floor without pooling on it. Too short and water escapes; too long and it bunches.
Choose the right material
Material decides waterproofing, look and upkeep:
- PEVA/EVA: waterproof, affordable and lightweight — a practical everyday choice.
- Polyester: fabric-like, water-resistant and durable, with a softer look.
- Cotton/fabric: elegant and breathable, but usually needs a waterproof liner behind it.
Curtain vs liner
Many setups use a decorative outer curtain plus a waterproof liner inside that does the actual water-blocking. If you choose a fabric curtain, plan for a liner; a fully waterproof curtain can work on its own.
Check for weight at the hem
A weighted hem (or magnets) keeps the curtain hanging straight and stops it billowing inward while you shower — a small feature that makes a big difference day to day.
Mind mould resistance
In humid bathrooms, look for mildew-resistant materials and finishes. They stay cleaner longer and are much easier to maintain — important in India's monsoon humidity.
Match the look to your bathroom
Pick a colour and pattern that suits your space. A light curtain makes a small bathroom feel bigger; a bold one becomes a focal point. Function first, but it should look good too.
